Yoga is truly a divine gift to humanity.

Leigh McLellan

I have been practising Hatha Yoga all of my adult life. After 10 years of practice with a variety of teachers in NYC, I trained to teach with the Himalayan Institute in 1998 and have been teaching since then, apart from a few years break dedicated to motherhood. I taught at the old Ken Marriott Leisure Centre for 3 years, bringing Hatha Yoga onto the timetable. I now teach out of privately hired venues in Rugby. In 2010-12 I studied with Birthlight UK and completed further teacher training in antenatal yoga and yoga for labour and birth. Then in 2016, I trained to become a specialist teacher of Yoga For Healthy Lower Backs (YHLB). I incorporate all that I have learned in over 30 years of yoga into my teaching style.

STYLE & LEVEL OF CLASSES I TEACH

All my classes are taught in traditional Hatha Yoga style and include a mix of asanas (postures), breathing practices (pranayama), guided relaxation (usually in the form of yoga nidra) and mantra (sound practices/chanting). I encourage the use of props and doing your yoga practice at the optimum level for you. I currently teach in the following levels:

Gentle/Chair Hatha - in this class we use the chair about 60-70% of the time, be that for supported seated, standing, kneeling, supporting lower legs etc. We also do some standing and mat based postures, however this class limits the number of transitions up and down from the floor and may be more suitable for those with limited mobility. This, or beginner class would be good places to start for those new to yoga.

Beginner Hatha - I explain the poses and don’t presume previous yoga knowledge. This is a good class for learning how to do the postures individually before stringing them together in sequences.

Mixed Level Hatha - this class is aimed at a mix of Beginners and Improvers and I tailor the content to the group but this class is a bit more challenging than Beginner class and I give options for working at different levels with the postures. Contains some sequences.

Improvers - this is my most challenging class. If you like to feel the effects of a stronger yoga class then this class may be for you. It may include more sequences of postures, more aerobic sequences and more challenging postures.
