I have been practising Hatha Yoga all of my adult life. After 10 years of practice with a variety of teachers in NYC, I trained to teach with the Himalayan Institute in 1998 and have been teaching since then, apart from a few years break dedicated to motherhood. I taught at the old Ken Marriott Leisure Centre for 3 years, bringing Hatha Yoga onto the timetable. I now teach out of privately hired venues in Rugby. In 2010-12 I studied with Birthlight UK and completed further teacher training in antenatal yoga and yoga for labour and birth. Then in 2016, I trained to become a specialist teacher of Yoga For Healthy Lower Backs (YHLB).

STYLE & LEVEL OF CLASSES I TEACH

I currently teach Hatha Yoga for beginners and improvers and Birthlight Pregnancy yoga (where no previous yoga knowledge is required; for 14-40+wks). My Monday morning class is my most gentle class, Tuesday and Thursday nights are a bit more dynamic/challenging.

Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs(YHLB)

This is a specialised, evidenced-based, 12 week course designed to give those with chronic or recurring low back pain a toolkit to improve and maintain a healthy back for life.

This yoga is based on a successful large scale clinical trial, funded by Arthritis UK in conjunction with The University of York. It is gentle, effective, enjoyable, beginner-friendly, with small group classes (3-12 people maximum) and individualised support.

It teaches and motivates health and well-being self-management. It was recently endorsed by the NICE guidelines. The positive results showing it to be safe and effective were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine ('Yoga for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Trial' H. Tilbrook, 2011). The Cost Evaluation in the Journal Spine (LH Chuang, 2012) showed it to be cost-effective for the NHS, society and the workplace. A social enterprise has been set up to allow more people to benefit from the same yoga programme used in this randomised controlled trial.
