Alzheimer's Disease

Nikki Brown, a qualified BANT registered nutritional therapist, will be giving a talk on Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer’s Disease is the most frequent cause of age-related cognitive decline. 30 million people are affected by the disease globally and it is estimated that this will increase to 160 million by 2050. Alzheimer’s is a condition that has previously been seen as progressive and untreatable, but science-based evidence has now shown that this is not the case.

In 2014, Professor Dale Bredesen, a leading scientific researcher of Alzheimer’s disease in the US, shared his conclusions that diet and lifestyle are able to reverse early stages of cognitive decline and significantly reduce the risk of getting Alzheimer’s and other cognitive symptoms. His clinical evidence to date shows dramatic benefits never seen before, without the use of drugs, and the factors involved in the pathology and progression of Alzheimer’s disease are now understood, as well as factors that can positively influence the disease process.

The talk will look at what Alzheimer’s is, what causes it and how the symptoms differ from normal aging. It will look at Professor Bredesen’s findings and how his approach to brain health reduces the risk factors, including genetic influences, nutrient deficiencies and Metabolic Syndrome, which is a key risk factor. And it will also look at what constitutes a healthy diet and lifestyle in relation to brain health.

Venue: Quakers Meeting House, 28 Regent Place, Rugby
Cost: £8.00

A LOVE SUNDAY YOGA EVENT WITH CARON LINDLEY OF RED HAT YOGA

Woo-hoo! Can't wait to welcome you to another afternoon of yoga bliss! This time, we'll be working to release toxins from the mind and body with a yin to restorative practice especially for the kidney & liver meridians. Bring your blankets, pillows and cushions so you can soften into the delicious hip opening poses and support your body where it needs it most.

We'll also be doing lots of breath-work to detoxify the lungs and a bit of chanting to clear the throat. You'll also sample a range of essentials oils that will facilitate release - basil, grapefruit, rosemary, frankincense and myrrh. Plus the chance to try a special oil blend called Zendocrine which helps purify the body’s system.

Enjoy a brew with your yoga friends, old and new. Take cake, if your hips don't mind! If they do, snack on fresh fruit!

The session will conclude with a Yoga Nidra experience, usually the most popular part of our Love Sunday Yoga events.

No experience of yoga is necessary. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Young People aged 11 and over are welcome, accompanied by a parent.

Venue: Ravensthorpe Village Hall, Teeton Road, Ravensthorpe, NN6 8EH

Happy Om Yoga & Sotai Ho is a wonderful class for any woman, young or old, to re-connect, re-balance & re-align with her body.  This taster offers you a safe space to get back in touch with yourself and your body regardless your abilities. A time to listen to your needs and a time to have fun and laugh with other women. A space to be nurtured, understood and just to be.

The class is based on the Japanese principles of Sotai Ho and a combination of different yoga therapy and restorative yoga styles. Sotai Ho is a form of movement therapy that works on the natural re-alignment of the body by moving joints and muscles in a comfortable direction away from the pain.  To deepen the release of tension and pain and to correct imbalances and twisted muscular holding patterns specific exercises are practised with the breath.

With a re-aligned body we then move into yoga asanas, pranayama (breath work) and relaxation. You deserve to be happy with yourself, to love who you are!

Nutritional support group in Rugby

Dear All,

We now have a venue for a Nutritional Support Group in Rugby!

We just need 6-8 people interested in attending.

It requires a monthly commitment on the last Thursday of each month, arrival from 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start, subject to whether this time suits those wanting to attend.

It will be a relaxed, informative evening, an opportunity to learn, share, discuss and have fun in the company of like minded people. There will be home made and purchased foods/drinks to try and healthy recipes to take away!

Each evening includes different focus and topics, based on what people in the group want to get from it, which we share at the first meeting. In January I envisage talking about the impact of internal and environmental toxins and how to get clean! This will include what we mean by toxins and detoxification, the impact of toxins on the body and our health, how we can limit our exposure and what we can do to ‘get rid’ of toxins already stored in the body. Toxins play a key role in weight gain/loss, inflammation and diabetes and so focus will also be on these areas.

The cost is £15 per meeting and because it will require me to commit my time to cook and travel to Rugby, I ask that people pay for each meeting in advance.

I would also be willing to hold an initial meeting in early January (8th January perhaps?) to get everyone motivated for the New Year.. this was requested in MK, so two meetings in January!

If you are interested or would like more information please email or phone me.

Thank you, wishing you good health, love and light,

Nikki xx

Most of us are aware that eating a healthy diet is important and that what we eat can positively or negatively affect our health. But many of us still find it difficult to change our eating habits and to incorporate more nutritious and energising foods. In this workshop we will explore what stops us from doing so, why it is increasingly difficult to obtain sufficient nutrients to support good health and how highly-nutritious foods and supplements can help to address health issues.

Nikki will explain how healing occurs when following a therapeutic diet and Graham, who has lost 3½ stones in under a year, will share his health and weight loss journey.

Depending upon the practice, some benefits of this technique are:
The initial benefits will be a calming effect in the body and mind; the heart will regulate itself and the breathing will naturally slow down. You will achieve the first stage of meditation by drawing your attention away from external noise, and things, bringing your awareness within; you will feel a pleasant harmonic vibration within the body, especially in the heart, chest and forehead. This increases when practising it in a group with others.
With practise, your concentration and brain functioning will improve and you will feel an indescribable sense of peace and well being. Hari OM!!
